An ever increasing list of sites devoted to book reviews and childrens literacy
Book Review Sites
Active Voice
A blog with often in depth and analytical reviews of children and YA books. Most are in the sci-fi/fantasy genre. The two reviewers come from a progressive and feminist and routinely discuss these themes in the books they review.
American Indians in Children's Literature
A site full of critical analysis of books' portrayal of American Indians and First Nation Peoples. They also examine classroom content.
The Children's Book Review
A giant site with lots of content. Includes author interviews, information about books being turned into movies, and reviews from children/YA readers. With so many contributors the quality of the content varies. Their break down for Books for Girls and Books for Boys is very stereotypical with Star Wars being a boy book and the like. Personally, I don't use this site that often.
Spaghetti Book Club
A book review site for kids by kids. It's a membership site used in some schools and after school programs to promote literacy and a love of reading, but anyone can read the reviews. The reviewers range from kindergarten to seniors in high school and they have a decent number of books reviewed.
Book Award/List Sites
AALBC.com - The Coretta Scott King Awards
ALA.org - Caldecott Medal Winners
ALA.org - Newbery Medal and Honor Winners

The Multicultural Toybox
A site about the importance of multicultural toys and books. There are recommendations for these and other games and crafts. The site is written and managed by Dr. Leslie Madsen - Brooks and hasn't been updated for a while, but there is a good archive of posts to work through.
ReadWriteThink
This link goes directly to the parent/educator resources page. They have a variety of activities, tips, and Podcasts that are searchable based on grade, type of activity, theme, and learning objective. They have resources for people working with students between Kindergarten and 12th grade.
